My Favorite Back to School Projects

Kids around here start school next week if they did not start already. Colleges start next week too. Although temps are still soaring in the 90s, it is time to start thinking about back to school and holiday projects. All too soon the cooler weather will be here.

Scarves

I love to crochet scarves. They are quick and easy projects. You can make them fashionable and warm. One of my favorite scarves is the Moonlight Mohair Scarf that I have posted as a free pattern on Craftsy. This scarf uses Moonlight Mohair yarn from Lion Brand. The yarn is mohair blended with metallic threads. It is perfect for teens and college kids. There is just the right amount of bling for young and old alike.

Afghans and Throws

Another quick and easy project is a throw size blanket or afghan. I am in the process of putting together the Snowball Afghan from Lion Brand. Stitching together all the little motifs has got me thinking about modifying the pattern so that the motifs can be joined as you go.

Socks and Slippers

I never wore slippers until I crocheted a pair for myself. The pattern was included with the yarn. You would think that by using the same pattern for both the left and right slipper they would come out identical. Nopeā€”for some reason one slipper was significantly larger than the other. One fit my foot comfortably but snug, and the other was a bit too wide and long. Not sure where I went wrong, but it was definitely an unexpected result. Hopefully my next attempt will come out better.

Crocheted socks and slippers make great gifts for college kids. Nothing like a cozy pair of slippers to keep your feet warm in a drafty dorm room.
